Leading a team means leading a community

Being in charge of a team means you are in charge of a community, whether you want to think of it that way or not.

The choices you make as a leader sculpt how your team behaves.

Are you making your team, that community, dependent on you? When you do this, you create a bottleneck—your time. Everything centers around you. People will resent this.

It is better to grow your team. Instead of routing everything through you, have them review it *with* you. Teach them to see what you see. Give your team the power to make independent choices.

We are knowledge workers, all of us. We want to be respected for our work and entrusted with challenges. Grow your team's sense of community into a place where you would love to work.
